Renewable Energy

In today's environment the use of renewable energy and related issues as CO2 and "emission neutral" are all topics increasingly frequent discussed on Board level meeting and priority issues on Governmental agenda's. Also - and sometimes in particular - when it comes to the mining industry given the strong environmental impact. Financiers have become increasingly sensitive to associate themselves (or not) with companies and bodies that can claim a responsible environmental behaviour.

As per AGC Single Source Solution strategty has extended her product portfolio with various renewable energy products.

With Africa at large in mind AGC focuses on three renewable energy types:

  • Biodiesel; The availability and use of Jathropa and other non-edible feedstock aswell rising cost of mineral fuels will support the use of biodiesel.

  • Solar: solar energy has a strong future in Africa due to the ongoing sharp increase of the cost per kW, undeveloped or complete lack of power distribution networks and (very) high solar radiation.
  • Waste-to-energy: some urban parts in Africa do show some of the highest worldwide growth numbers in population while waste processing facilities lag behind.
National and local Governments may consider the use of waste to be converted to oils and synthetic diesel. Waste-to-energy technology may also come into play with regard to the rehabilition of residual mining areas as for example converting synthetic diesel from the vast coals dust depot in South Africa.
